NEW YORK, July 10, 2002 – In honor of his advocacy and long-term commitment to the direct mail and list communities, Ray Schultz, editorial director of Direct magazine has been named 2002 ‘List Leader of the Year’ by the members of the List & Database Council of the Direct Marketing Association (The DMA). Schultz will receive the award at an August 26 dinner at The Manhattan Penthouse in New York during The DMA’s List Vision 2002 Conference.
"At a time when the list community is under heavy attack, The List & Database Council recognizes Ray for his outstanding contributions and advancement of the industry’s ethical, legislative and business practices," said Stefanie Pont, corporate media director, Brann Media Worldwide and Chairperson, The DMA List & Database Council. "This award is especially noteworthy as members of the List & Database Council chose the recipient."
During his more than 20 years as editor, Schultz has been a strong advocate of the list and database community and has written several editorials defending direct marketers and list suppliers against unfair charges levied in the media. Schultz joined DM News as a freelance reporter in 1981, was named editor in 1986, and later joined Direct as editor in 1994.
Schultz has initiated numerous list roundtables and the e-mail newsletter Direct Listline and speaks frequently about the benefits of direct mail and the list industry at industry events. He also serves on the advisory board of the National Center for Database Marketing (NCDM) conferences. He is currently in the process of writing a book on the history of direct mail.
Each year, members of the List & Database Council select as ‘List Leader of the Year’ an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the list and database community and is active in at least one of the following areas: ethics, education, list practices and standards, privacy issues, postal reform, communications, or environmental concerns.
The DMA List & Database Council is a professional member service organization that promotes effective, ethical use of list and database marketing.
